Still Life Workshop
"Still Life Painting in the Old Masters' Tradition with Acrylics"
Join us for a 3-hour hands-on workshop where we will explore the timeless techniques of the Old Masters, adapted for modern acrylic paints.
Whether you're a beginner looking to learn foundational skills or an advanced artist eager to refine your technique, this workshop is designed for all levels.
In this session, we will focus on the mischtechnik (mixed technique) method—a layered approach to painting where we build up form and depth through careful, precise brushstrokes. We’ll begin with a layer of white paint, focusing on shape and contour, gradually sculpting the still life with fine brushwork. This initial step helps establish the structure and form, giving your painting a solid foundation.
Next, we will apply a transparent yellow layer, adding warmth and enhancing the underpainting. Afterward, we’ll build on top with highlights and color, gradually bringing the painting to life. By layering these colors and values, you’ll learn to capture the depth, light, and texture of our subject: vibrant citrus fruit.
Throughout the workshop, you'll learn how to approach your subject like a sculptor, adding layer after layer to create a dynamic, three-dimensional result. This process will give you a deeper understanding of light, shadow, and form, while also refining your ability to paint with acrylics.
Whether you’re new to painting or a seasoned artist exploring new techniques, this workshop will provide a solid foundation and creative challenges. All materials will be provided, and no previous painting experience is necessary.
This workshop will be held at CoastalCo 1/31 Henry Wilson Drive, Capel Sound 3940 on Saturday, the 22nd of February from 1 - 4 pm
please arrive 10 mins early so we can get settled before we begin.
You are welcome to bring your own drinks—glasses will be provided—and a platter will be served to keep the creative juices flowing.
